Reason 3: Personalized, Intimate & Fun
Start off with our English assessment and see how your English skills measure up. Based on your assessment results, you will be placed in a class that is suitable for your skill level. Also, the assessment will provide insights into which functional areas need improvement the most. Bright Beginnings offers the smallest & most intimate group settings in Hawaii, comprising of only 7 students per 1 teacher. In a small class & school, students can express their thoughts confidently without reservation. Moreover, teachers and students alike are able to get acquainted better during class and through participation in our optional afternoon activities. We host a variety of unique activities which provide opportunities for participants to get to know one another through English and, of course, through fun.
English Skills Course Schedule
Our English Skills Course provides a more in-depth program to build a stronger foundation in English. The course is an 8 Lesson weekly course, from 1-3pm, Monday - Thursday. If you want more English lessons beyond the morning Integrated English course or if you want to focus on improving a specific skill, then this is the right course for you. You can either decide to enroll for all classes or select specific ones to attend. The specific classes are described below:
- Class Schedule: Monday’s at 1pm, Wednesday’s at 1pm
- Class Levels: Grammar I, II and III available
Grammar is the springboard for developing your English skills. In this course, students will learn to express themselves clearly and concisely without errors. Knowing grammar correctly will help you understand what makes sentences and paragraphs clear and interesting and precise. This course has clear charts to help you easily understand and remember key grammatical constructs. There are numerous practices and activities to help students understand the application of grammar forms and meanings.
- True Stories: Reading & Writing
- Class Schedule: Tuesday’s at 2pm, Thursday’s at 2pm
- Class Levels: True Stories I, II and III available
By reading true stories, readers are not only entertained but capture the student’s attention and imagination. Active reading is important because it reinforces proper language skills and develops an understanding of proper grammar, vocabulary usage and understanding. In this class, students develop reading skills through a step by step process. Also, students can get practice in listening, vocabulary and writing as well.
- Real Talk: Speaking & Listening
- Class Schedule: Monday’s at 2pm, Wednesday’s at 2pm
- Class Levels: Real Talk I and II available
Real talk focuses on helping students understand the world of speaking English apart from the structured classroom English. It focuses on spontaneous live conversations, phone conversations, radio and lectures. Students will learn how to speak in everyday life and to improve their listening skills as well.
- Class Schedule: Thursday’s at 1pm
- Class Levels: Levels I, II and III available
This class helps students build a stronger vocabulary. Having a strong vocabulary is essential towards achieving fluency. This class will help expand your vocabulary and help to understand the different contexts and meaning of words. Many examples of word usage helps students to better understanding its meaning. Moreover, students will learn the meaning of English idioms - or words that are not meant to be taken literally but have specific meanings.
- Class Schedule: Tuesday’s at 1pm
- Class Levels: Level I and II available
This class helps students to pronounce English words properly. It will help students to build confidence in speaking by teaching how the mouth and lips should move, break words down into sounds and syllables and add stress to specific sounds. Students will listen to how words should be pronounced, have practice on pronouncing the words and receive feedback from teachers through listening of self recordings.
